The short version. Glyphscape generates, breeds, and animates ASCII/glyph-art wallpapers on your device. The wallpapers you create and any photos you import to convert into glyph art stay on your phone — they are never uploaded to us or to any third party. We use Google Firebase for anonymous crash and usage diagnostics, and (unless you unlock Pro) Google AdMob for advertising. Neither receives your artwork or imported images.
1. Overview
Glyphscape ("the app", "we", "us") is an Android app that lets you generate, evolve ("breed"), animate, and set ASCII / glyph-art wallpapers, home-screen widgets, and lock screens. This policy explains what information the app accesses, where it is stored, and the limited cases in which information leaves your device.
The app is designed to be local-first: the creative content it handles — your generated wallpapers, presets, favorites, and any images you import — is produced and stored on your device and never leaves your phone through the app.
2. Your Wallpapers & Imported Images
Everything you create in Glyphscape is generated locally on your device. When you choose to import a photo (to turn it into glyph art), the app uses Android's system image picker to access only the single image you select. That image is processed entirely on your device to produce glyph art.
This content stays on your device. The app does not contain any account system or backend for your artwork. It does not transmit your generated wallpapers, presets, or imported photos to us or to any third party. Content leaves your phone only when you explicitly share or save it using the Android share sheet or your gallery.
3. Data Stored on Your Device
The following are stored locally in the app's private storage:
- Your generated wallpapers, animations, presets, "bred" combinations, and favorites.
- Images you import for conversion, and any thumbnails or intermediate render files.
- Home-screen widget configuration and the current widget/wallpaper artwork.
- Your settings and preferences (theme, sound, animation options, background-update settings, and your Pro entitlement state).
This data is held in the app's sandboxed storage and is removed when you clear the app's data or uninstall the app. Wallpapers or images you deliberately export are saved to your device gallery and remain there until you delete them.
4. Analytics & Crash Reporting
The app uses Google Firebase to understand stability and feature usage in aggregate:
- Firebase Crashlytics (including native crash reporting) — collects crash stack traces and device/OS context to help us fix bugs.
- Firebase Analytics — records anonymous, low-frequency events (e.g. a screen was viewed, a wallpaper was set, a preset was created) and coarse, non-identifying properties (e.g. theme mode, whether Pro is unlocked).
We never send your artwork, imported photos, or other personal content to Firebase. Analytics parameters carry only things like screen names, feature/enum names, counts, booleans, and durations — never your wallpapers, images, or file contents.
Firebase processes this data on Google's infrastructure. See Google's Firebase privacy and Google Privacy Policy.
5. Advertising
Unless you unlock Pro, the app shows ads through Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK), including banner and native ad formats. AdMob may collect and use your device's advertising ID (AD_ID), coarse device and network information, and ad-interaction data to deliver and measure ads, including personalized ads where permitted. Google acts as an independent controller of that data under its own privacy policy.
Consent (GDPR / regulated regions)
In regions that require it, the app presents Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent form (IAB TCF / GDPR) before requesting ads. Your choice is stored on the device and passed to Google; ad personalization is gated on it. You can reset or change your choice later from the app's settings.
Relevant policies: Google Privacy Policy, How Google uses advertising data.
If you unlock Pro (see below), the app stops requesting ads and no advertising data is collected through it.
6. Purchases (Pro Unlock)
The app offers a single, one-time lifetime Pro unlock (glyphscape_lifetime) that removes ads and enables Pro features, handled by Google Play Billing. Payment is processed entirely by Google Play — we never see or store your payment-card details. We receive only the purchase / entitlement state needed to unlock Pro, which is stored on your device and can be restored via your Google account. See the Google Play Terms.
7. Permissions
| Permission | Why it is used |
|---|---|
| Set wallpaper | Core function — to apply the glyph art you create as your home and lock screen wallpaper. |
| Photos / media access (system picker) | Optional — to let you import a photo you select and convert it to glyph art. Only the image you pick is accessed, and it is processed on your device. |
| Write external storage (Android 9 and below) | To save exported wallpapers to your device gallery. |
| Internet / Network state | Required by Firebase, ads, in-app updates, and billing. Not used to upload your artwork. |
Advertising ID (AD_ID) | Used by Google AdMob to deliver and measure ads (unless you unlock Pro). |
9. Retention & Deletion
- Your wallpapers, presets, favorites, and imported images are kept locally until you delete them within the app.
- You can clear the app's storage at any time from Android settings.
- Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data (exported images already saved to your gallery are not affected).
- Diagnostic data held by Firebase and advertising data held by Google are retained per their respective policies.
10. Children
The app is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
11. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g. GDPR in the EEA/UK, CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to withdraw advertising consent. Because your creative content lives only on your device, you can exercise deletion directly by removing it in the app or uninstalling. For requests relating to diagnostics or advertising data, contact us using the details below and we will help direct your request to the relevant processor.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
