How it works
- Nothing leaves your device. The files, the key and the password are read by this page in your browser. The page is not allowed to send anything anywhere, and once it has loaded it works offline.
- Which key? The one the sender shared with you from Refile (Settings → Privacy & security → Safedrop keys), as a
.rskeyfile, a QR code or text. Each file says whether your key matches. - Passwords. A file locked with "key or password" opens with either one. A file locked with "key and password" needs both.
- View-only files can't be opened here. The sender allowed them to be opened only in Refile on Android, where screenshots are blocked and no plain copy can be kept. Ask them for a full-access key, or open the file in Refile.
- Large files. Chrome and Edge save straight to disk. Other browsers build the file in memory first, so very large videos may need a computer with Chrome or Edge.
- Files are protected with AES-256-GCM. A file that was changed or cut short is refused rather than opened.
